Biography
Coldplay are an English five-piece stadium rock band from England and are one of Britain's biggest selling acts, with albums sales of over 5 million. Their line-up consists of Chris Martin (vocals, piano, guitar), Jonny Buckland (guitar), Guy Berryman (bass) and Will Champion (percussion).
The group's sound is often piano-led, although their breakthrough hit - the anthemic single, Yellow - was guitar-led. Debut album Parachutes went to number 1 in the UK charts in July 2000 and critical acclaim was also to follow, with Parachutes receiving a Mercury nomination. Subsequent releases have seen the band's popularity continue to soar.
Aside from the music, frontman Chris Martin is well known for being a champion of fair trade, with his self-inked MakeTradeFair.com tattoo becoming a trademark. Martin is also married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
