Biography

When Kurt Cobain's suicide ended Nirvana, no-one could've thought the lanky drummer would go on to not only form, but front one of the world's biggest bands.

But that's exactly what's happened. However, during his time in the Seattle grunge outfit there were a couple of ominous hints that Dave Grohl was more than just a tubthumper. He released a tape under the pseudonym Late! and also penned and sung on Heart-Shaped Box b-side, Marigold (the track later making it onto the Foos In Your Honour album).

In fact, Grohl was the only member of Foo Fighters when the eponymous debut album was released in 1995, writing the songs and playing all of the instruments himself. The current line-up only came together following the recording of third album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose. The band members are former Alanis Morisette drummer Taylor Hawkins, former Germs guitarist Chris Shiflett and ex-Sunny Day Real Estate bassist Nate Mendel.

The group's style is the melodic side of rock, and career highlights include three Best Rock Album Grammys and two Brit awards.
