It didn't take long for Franz Ferdinand's unique brand of dance-pop-art-rock to capture the ears (and feet) of their fellow Glaswegians. Their string of early performances, held at a secret run-down warehouse which was done-up and renamed The Chateau for the shows, were only eventually ended by a police raid. That was 2002, and by 2003 they were signed to Domino Recordings, home of Pavement and now, Arctic Monkeys.
However, it was the release of Take Me Out, Supergrass's Moving for the post-Britpop generation, that launched them onto the cover of NME. Their eponymous debut album then won the 2004 Mercury music prize, and the band headlined V Festival 2005. Their well-received second album continued to propel them into indie stardom.
And despite being rather inappropriately named after the assassinated Austrian Archduke whose death triggered World War I, Alex Kapranos (lead vocals and guitar), Bob Hardy (bass guitar), Nick McCarthy (rhythm guitar, keyboards and backing vocals), and Paul Thomson (drums, percussion and backing vocals) continue to threaten dancefloors and moshpits in equal measure.
