"I'd completely forgotten how Som Wardner was once supposed to be the British Billy Corgan. But there's a hell of a lot of people who clearly think he is. Back with new EP 'A Phyrric Victory', their apocalypto-rock turns out to be a surprise highlight of the afternoon. Plus, in case people aren't familar with the new songs - that push them in a more classic direction - well-mannered Som leads the band into snippets of Pantera, RATM and actual Burt Bacharach. Best Song: 'War Of The Worlds'"

"A huge progression from where they were in 2002, this song finds the band more than ready to content with the rock big shots of 2007 and totally flatten their natural pop-rock successors.
A couple of remixes and a cover of Martika's Toy Soldiers make this EP absolutely worth having, whether you've been waiting for it or you're just curious. Beware though, it'll leave you desperate to hear that new album and I suspect a September release for that."

"The superb My Vitriol make a return to the music scene after a long hiatus with the brilliant 'A Pyrrhic Victory' EP. Something that pleases me greatly, as I'm a huge fan. The progression of the bands sound can clearly be heard, but their distinctive prog rock meets shoegaze meets indie vibe is still there.
Opening track 'War Of The Worlds' is melancholic and atmospheric, and left the crowd enraptured at their come back show at the Koko last November. 'Lord Only Knows I've Tried' comes in the form of a 'mellow version', and that it is. With a swooning guitar and vocal line, it's reminiscent of the latter tracks on their critically acclaimed debut album 'Finelines' (which by the way, if you don't already own you should get as it's fantastic) They've also included a cover version in the form of Martika's 'Toy Soldiers'. It's an emotive and energetic interpretation. 'Electrowar' (War Of The Worlds remix) would sound better in a club than on your stereo at home; it needs a dark, charged expanse of space to do it justice. My Vitriol, welcome back. It's been too long."

"cracking new EP, fronted by War of The Worlds. This is a fine track that merges indie guitars with a cracking melody to make it one of their most accessible tracks to date, and a great appetiser for the forthcoming album.
Special mention also to their version of a Markita classic from the 80's - Toy Soldiers. This is a very powerful version that works really well, with the chorus hook step by step moving from original synths to a guitar led version.
Welcome back to a band with a potential huge future ahead of them"

"After a four year hiatus My Vitriol return with 'A Pyrrhic Victory EP.' Do they still justify their slavish cult following? On the evidence of the first track they most certainly do. 'War Of The Worlds' is all crunching guitars and apocalypse drums, as Som sings like the end is nigh. It sounds heavy as anything with a series of beautiful doom laden guitar riffs. The contrasts between quiet and loud are used to awesome effect creating a brutal return to form.. Ultimately this EP is no pyrrhic victory, it's a pretty triumphant return from a band that have been away far too long."
